social commitment

Who is the foundation?
The Swiss School for Guide Dogs Foundation was founded in 1972. It breeds dogs that enable people with disabilities to lead more self-determined and independent lives. The dogs are given to their owners free of charge, but remain the property of the school for life. The careful breeding, professional training and lifelong companionship of the dogs are complex and costly, which is why the disability insurance contribution only covers a small part of the total expenses. The school receives no state subsidies and is financed through donations, legacies, bequests and the sale of promotional items from the online shop. Over 50 employees and several hundred volunteers work closely together to achieve the school's charitable purpose.
What does the foundation do?
The approximately 80 puppies born in our own breeding program each year undergo different training courses depending on their talent and suitability. Guide dogs help blind or visually impaired people to be more mobile. Assistance dogs support children or adults who are dependent on a wheelchair by retrieving things or opening doors. The social dogs are out and about in a variety of institutions and provide joy and variety. And thanks to autism assistance dogs, families with a child with autism can participate more in social life.
In addition to training dogs, the school also acts as a coach to motivate and support people. This includes various aspects such as introducing the dog to the future owners, working with the sponsors who raise the puppies, and supervising volunteers who look after the breeding dogs, family dogs and retired animals. The dogs always remain the property of the school.
the school to ensure that they are optimally cared for.
How can I support the foundation?
The Swiss School for Guide Dogs Foundation can be supported in many ways. It is constantly looking for motivated sponsors who are prepared to take in a young puppy for a period of 1.5 years and socialize it. There is also the possibility of adopting breeding dogs, family dogs or retired dogs.
As a non-profit institution, the foundation relies on donations, legacies, bequests and other forms of support. Donations and legacies to the Swiss School for Guide Dogs Allschwil Foundation can be deducted from taxes in all Swiss cantons. You can find more information here.
